NARBHA's "NARBHAnet" telemedicine network is the winner of the 2010 Excellence in Health IT Award from the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare.

• American Telemedicine Association publishes Practice Guidelines for Videoconferencing-Based Telemental Health (October 2009) and Evidence-Based Practice for Telemental Health (July 2009). NARBHA's Sara Gibson, MD (reviewer), and Nancy Rowe (working group member) contributed to both publications.
• NARBHAnet adds new sites and connections
• Federal rebates for FY08/09 obtained for clinical sites
• New interactive resource for Telemental Health programs from the University of Colorado Denver.
• NARBHA received an honorable mention in February 2009 as a Program of Significance by the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare "for their very GREEN, environmentally conscious, innovative telemedicine program."
• Carbon emissions savings: Did you know...
  • From July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009, the NARBHA telemedicine network saved over 110,000 miles of driving and over 1900 hours of drive time by 16 psychiatric providers.
• This saved 40.1 tons of CO2 from being added to earth's atmosphere.
• This doesn't include all the staff who save countless hours of drive time throughout the 62,000 square miles of Northern Arizona by using the telemedicine network for meetings.

Presentations and Publications:

• NARBHA's Nancy Rowe presented as part of a panel on "Buying the Technology of Telehealth" at the American Telemedicine Association's 2009 annual meeting.
• NARBHA offered its second semi-annual "Telepsychiatry Basics" seminar March 13, 2009. The seminar, which offers clinical, technical, and administrative information on tele-mental health, attracted 28 participants from Arizona and six other states.

• New clinical use for NARBHAnet: In October 2007, an American Sign Language interpreter began coming to NARBHA headquarters in Flagstaff each week, where she videoconferences into psychiatric sessions in Kingman and Bullhead City to provide ASL interpretation services between patient and doctor. She presented on these experiences at the American Telemedicine Association's 2009 annual meeting.
